Why is Self-Care Important?
What is Self- Care?
Hmmm, what is self care? What I keep repeating in my head as I sit here writing this first paragraph. Sometimes, self-care can be swept under the rug and not prioritized. I believe everyone should practice self care. Self-care is the act of simply taking care of yourself. Do you not want to take care of yourself? Anyways, Self- Care include taking care of our body, mind, soul, social life, and more.
We often live for pleasing those around us and what they expect from us, but we forget waht we actually need, and what we need to make us a better person.
Self-Care is self-discovery, taking the time for you can hep you find out more about yourself. Your strengths, your weakness, and more. And everyday implement self care you can embrace the best version of you.
The Importance of Self-Care
Everyone has their doubts about self care. But, what is wrong with trying to take care of yourself? Nothing. Self-Care is important for everyone to incorporate into their lives.
My busy life consists of going to work and teaching my three year olds how to well..sit still for more than five minutes, lol. But seriously I am a daycare teacher to a full class of three year olds and they sure run my energy dry. My job is to take care of children and teach them fundamental skills in different areas that three year olds would need to hit. I am also a dog mommy, I have two crazy pups. Which also keeps me on my toes and I have an awesome boyfriend who needs to be tended to. And then there is family and friends on top of it all. It’s hard to find time with everything going on. But, I definitely make the time for myself.
Self care can be pushed to the side due to our other responsibilities and priorities but it’s not hard to take 5-10 minutes a day for just yourself. Check out my other post for some easy quick self care activities. These activities are great for a nice breath of air.
Self-Care is a way to tell yourself, “Hey, I am thinking about you too”. Don’t let yourself forget about the most important person in your life and that’s you. Becoming the best version of yourself involves you to take care of your mind, body and girll all of the above.
The Benefits of Practicing Self-Care
- Reduces stress/anxiety

- Increase Self-Esteem
- Simple Self-Care Activities To Fit Into Busy Schedule
Self-care doesn’t have to be going out and having to spend money just to feel better and it doesn’t have to take a long period of time. Taking a little bit here and there, is totally fine. But do not do anything that doesn’t make you happy or give you any source of joy.
Your self care activities should be something that inspires the best version of you. That doesn’t mean don’t try new things, I advised you to try things out because something that you might not originally do could be your new source of happiness.
GOAL: Make a list of your favorite self care activities and try to finish 2-3 a day or every other day.
How To Find Time
It’s not easy when you have a demanding job, a crazy pup, and all the responsibilities of having your role in life. But anyways having priorities is normal, but forgetting that yourself is one too, isn’t normal. You may be juggling many responsibilities at one time and this leads to your needs to be last. Yes occasionally going out with loved ones, or getting your lashes down or whatever is,is considered self care. But implementing it everyday to recharge yourself n a daily basis can really get you feeling your best. And if you’re not making time for self care you are most likely stressed, and overwhelmed, and we don’t want that.
Something you can try is to wake up just a littler earlier than the rest of your family, and try to embrace the silence of just being alone. Sometimes the sudden stillness of our busy lives is appreciated. Jump in the shower, make yourself a nice cup of coffee or tea while reading any emails, checking social media, whatever. It’s your time. You can always keep it simple.
A way to really be accountable for your time is doing time blocks. I love using a planner and/or a journal. And I think you should get one too. Planners and journals keep me organized. Use this to place stamps on when you plan to take time for yourself. Mark it down. After dinner, before the kids wake up, etc. You can even tell those around you the times you will not be available, so you know and others do too. Make it official.
